Beginning Video Game Design

Want to discover how to become a Video Game Programmer? 

 

This course is for anyone who loves gaming and wants to learn how to design and build their own original games. Students learn how to use popular game-development software to create interactive games in a variety of styles. After learning about game genres, students learn about all aspects of the game-design process. Students will learn the fundamentals involved in creating their own 3D video game world! Students will develop and storyboard game design and learn to place different objects into their own virtual world! From there, it's on to a series of increasingly challenging hands-on projects that teach all the elements of successful game development. 

 

Class time: 3:00pm - 3:55pm - Tuesday

Recommended Age/Grade: 6th through 12th grade

Minimum computer requirements:

Generally content developed with Unity can run pretty much everywhere. How well it runs is dependent on the complexity of your project. More detailed requirements:

  • Desktop:

    • OS: Windows XP SP2+, Mac OS X 10.8+, Ubuntu 12.04+, SteamOS+.

    • Graphics card: DX9 (shader model 3.0) or DX11 with feature level 9.3 capabilities.

    • CPU: SSE2 instruction set support.

  • iOS player will require iOS 7.0 or higher (dropping 6.0).

  • Android: OS 2.3.1 or later; ARMv7 (Cortex) CPU with NEON support or Atom CPU; OpenGL ES 2.0 or later.

  • WebGL: Any recent desktop version of Firefox, Chrome, Edge or Safari.

  • Windows Phone: 8.1 or later.

  • Windows Store Apps: 8.1 or later
